Every assessment is different. Some will allow the use of AI to some extent, and some won't permit it at all.
Use this page to learn more about what options your tutor might give you, and examples of how AI might be used appropriately.
Never use AI tools to generate assessment content and submit it as your own work. This is academic misconduct. DN Colleges Group has measures to ensure you understand the importance of submitting your own original work and to detect any potential misconduct.
You can avoid this by following the rules set out by your tutor and being open and honest about what tools you have used. This may involve signing a declaration of authenticity when you submit your work.
To learn more about plagiarism and academic integrity, check out our Introduction to Referencing.
Plagiarism is when you use someone else's work without giving them credit. This means you are passing someone else's work off as your own, which amounts to cheating.
By referencing everything honestly you can avoid plagiarism, as you are acknowledging when something isn't your own work.
A declaration of authenticity is usually a sheet of paper you sign when you submit your work. It is essentially a promise that you haven't cheated. If you are found to have not been honest on this declaration, it could be taken as a sign of academic misconduct and taken very seriously.
It may include a statement specifically on AI, which might say something like:
I certify that all work submitted is my own and I have not claimed work that has been generated or altered by AI as my own.
Academic misconduct is when someone lies about the originality or truthfulness of their work. It includes things like copying someone else's work, falsifying data, or getting someone else to sit an exam for you. It is taken very seriously and there could be consequences such as losing marks for an assessment or not being allowed to complete your course.
This assessment is meant to evaluate your own understanding, critical thinking, research skills, and ability to create responses independently.
Using AI in an assignment like this will be considered cheating and may lead to penalties according to DN Colleges Group’s academic misconduct rules.

Important: If you're not sure whether you're allowed to use AI for certain tasks in your assignment, always ask your tutor.
In some cases, your tutor may want you to use AI as part of your assessment. Your teacher will inform you of this. They will give clear guidance on how to use AI, and what not to use it for.
You may have to fully reference any AI tools you have used, and sign a declaration of authenticity confirming the work is your own.
